3D Dot Game Heroes takes place in the Kingdom of Dotnia, which originally was a world made up of 2D sprite art.
Within the land of Dotnia are six magical orbs that long ago sealed away a Demon of Darkness by combining the power of the six magical orbs and the power of a brave hero.
After the Demon of Darkness was sealed into the Orb of Light by this brave swordsman "with a sword to silence the demons", the kingdom of Dotnia went into a time of great prosperity and became a big tourist hotspot. However, over time the legend of the brave warrior faded into memory and the kingdom began experiencing a time where there were no tourists,.
Unwilling to allow his kingdom to continue on this course the king of Dotnia decides that he wants to further his kingdom's prosperity and bring in more visitors, thus under the king's command, the kingdom was transformed from 2D to 3D. However, as the citizens welcomed their new 3D lifestyle, an incident occurred.
You play as a descendant of the hero who saved the kingdom and are now tasked with saving the world, as the orbs have gone missing...
