SoftBank Increases Stake in Supercell to 73%

Investor SoftBank has increased its stake in Clash Of Clans developer SuperCell by 22.7 percent to 73.2 percent. This was made possible after Accel sold its shares.

Accel was the first company to invest in SupercCell, with an $11 million investment in May 2011. SuperCell later sold a 51 percent stake in the company in October 2013 to Softbank and developer GungHo Online Entertainment for $1.5 billion. GungHo Entertainment would later sell its stake in August 2014 to SoftBank.

SuperCell CEO & co-founder Ilkka Paananen said the following:

"We have been lucky in many ways, including with our investors. Accel always supported our long-term vision, particularly as we made tough decisions early on about where we would focus our efforts. There are many reasons why we've been able to make great games and one is the support we have had from Accel, who have been insightful, strategic, supportive and responsive."
