Pistons are crafted by filling the top row with wooden planks, filling the center row in this order left to right cobblestone, iron ingot, cobblestone and filling the bottom row in this order left to right cobblestone, redstone dust, cobblestone. Pistons are used to push objects in the direction the wooden push faces, pistons are used in variety of ways like starting up minecarts, making self repairing bridges and even farming.
