Welcome to the walkthrough section for Dynasty Warriors 8, where you will be able to find detailed strategies for each battle of the game's Story Mode. In addition, you will be able to find how to unlock the extra stages and fulfill the hypothetical conditions for stages that have them. Each kingdom/faction has their own Story mode, complete with its own unique stages.
There are four kinds of stages in the Story Mode: normal ones, extra stages (marked with an X in its name), and two branches towards the end. The Historical route, marked with a H in its name, follows the actual history, while the Hypothetical route (marked with a W in its name) is a collection of stages that is completely fictional.
You may have noticed that when you select stages in one of the story modes, that there will be stars listed under the stage. These are the hypothetical conditions that must be fulfilled in order to unlock the Hypothetical route once you reach a certain battle. These conditions must be completed in order to unlock the Hypothetical route (only those before that specific battle). Once they have been done, then the battle before the split will have a choice on whether to go the Historical route or the Hypothetical route.
For example, the 10 - Battle of Chibi in Wei's Story mode is when the split happens for the route. Normally when you are in the camp prior to starting the battle, you just talk to Cao Pi to begin. However, if you completed all of the hypothetical conditions in the battles prior to Chibi, then there will be the option to talk to Guo Jia in the camp, which will unlock the Hypothetical route (Battle of Chibi will play out differently than the Historical version).
For each battle, there will be the list of characters that the player can select as their character in it. Sometimes, a character is marked with a (*), which means that s/he is not normally playable and must be unlocked by fulfilling a Hypothetical situation in a previous battle.
Also, the walkthroughs provided are just a series of events that will likely happen during the natural flow of the stage, should the player follow and complete them. They are by no means the only way to complete a stage. In fact, different characters will have different missions during the battle, with some battles being a completely different battle. For the sake of easiness, only one walkthrough will be provided for each stage.
