Animal Crossing: New Leaf is a life simulation video game developed by Nintendo EAD exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. It is the latest installment in the Animal Crossing series - games in which players live out life in a rural village populated with anthropomorphic animals.
In New Leaf, players will control the mayor of an animal village and contains many new features. Players begin by living in a tent that will eventually be upgraded and expanded. Customization of the character's appearance and furnishings has been enhanced and players may visit each others towns using the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.

Development
E3 2010 - Animal Crossing: A New Leaf was first revealed, though little was actually shown. A number of new gameplay features were mentioned and a non-playable demo was featured at Nintendo's E3 booth.
Story
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf the player now takes on the role of the mayor for the first time. With the help of the townsfolk and 'one eager secretary' it is now the player's job to make the town a better place to live.
Gameplay
New Leaf is a life simulation game that follows the real passage of time. Unlike the previous entries in the series, players are put into the role as mayor of the town. This means that the player has the responsibility to keep the town running, as well as improving it through keeping it clean and updating buildings.
Mayoral Duties
The player is now the mayor of the town, and it is up to the player to make sure the town is running both efficiently and well. You only have two major mayoral duties as mayor, which is setting the Town Ordinances and constructing Public Works Projects.
Villagers
Villagers are the main NPCs in the game, of which there are a total of 333. Each villager is an animal and comes in one of many different species (there are 34 species). They can interact with the environment, such as plant flowers or shake trees, as well as interact with the player.
Items
There are plenty of items in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, ranging from everyday tools to items you can use for your character's appearance and house. Some items can take a while to get, such as the Golden Net, which requires you to catch one of every bug in the game, while some are a lot easier to acquire.

Collectibles
Animal Crossing: New Leaf gives players the chance to collect many different things, as in previous Animal Crossing games. Amongst these things are bugs, fish, fossils, paintings and gyroids. Apart from gyroids, the rest of the collectibles can be displayed in the Museum by talking to Blathers and donating them.
