Kathy Tarrgo to the shop & choose 2nd last tab showing the idol coin...you can see that you can buy the lifesaver etc. needed to upgrade the boat there....you will need to collect the idol coins from the archipelago quests....keep going back to the islands to get more idol coins to buy the upgrades -
Surreptitious PipI got mine doing archipelago 1 quests. I now have two. I only got one compass though and I am all the way through the first set of islands. I keep going back no luck yet.
