Death is the leader of the Four Horsemen and the main protagonist of Darksiders II. He is the eldest of the surviving Nephilim, a fusion of angel and demon, who waged a bloody war on the rest of creation. After the formation of the Four Horsemen, Death and his brethren were charged with destroying the remaining Nephilim in exchange for incredible power by the Charred Council. Despite the Council's order, Death gathered the souls of the fallen and stored them in an amulet and gave it to Crowfather.
In Darksiders II, Death and the other Horsemen have been informed of War's imprisoned, having been accused of starting the Apocalypse prematurely. Not believing that his brother was guilty, as War was the most honorable of the Four Horsemen, Death decides to find some way to save the younger horseman by restoring humanity.
