John McClane is a police officer and the reluctant hero of the Die Hard series of games and films. Based on the fictional character Detective Joe Leland from Roderick Thorp's novel, Nothing Lasts Forever, and Frank Malone from Walter Wager's novel 58 Minutes, he is New York Police Department cop who seems to have the worst luck and constantly finds himself facing a group of terrorists alone.
The main character of the Dynamite Cop series, Bruno Delinger, is based on John McClane and was eventually licensed for release in the US and Europe as Die Hard Arcade.
