Lightning McQueen is the main protagonist of the Pixar's Cars series. He was named after Pixar animator Glenn McQueen, who died in 2002 of skin cancer, and is modeled after the generic NASCAR vehicles.
In the first film, McQueen is an up-and-coming rookie racer who finds himself in the small town of Radiator Springs where he is charge with repairing the main road that he accidently destroyed. In Cars 2, McQueen is challenged to join the World Grand Prix, sponsored by former oil tycoon Miles Axelrod to promote his new biofuel, Allinol.
