Tow Mater is a Lightning McQueen's best friend and a main character in Pixar's Cars series. He is based on a 1951 International Harvester tow truck and has become very popular, earning the role of main protagonist in an animated short series, A Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales. He is the self-proclaimed world's best backwards driver and has shown an incredible amount of knowledge pertaining to automative parts and engines.
