Kirby - Overview

Kirby, the awesome, tough-as-nails pink puff-ball! Originally debuting in Kirby's Dreamland on the Nintendo Gameboy, Kirby was first depicted as black and white due to the Gameboy's graphical limitations. Kirby was created by Masahiro Sakurai when he worked at HAL Laboratory. However, he Sakurai has not worked on a Kirby game since 2003 when he left HAL Laboratory and went on to begin his own company, Sora Ltd., where he dedicated his work primarily to the Super Smash Bros. series and most recently Kid Icarus Uprising. Despite Masahiro Sakurai's departure, Kirby games continue to be developed by HAL Laboratory.

Kirby games have historically recieved critical acclaim with every new release. His common enemies include King Dedede and Meta Knight. Most Kirby games share similar game mechanics such as Kirby's copy ability in which he sucks in enemies and absorbs their abilities, and his multi-jump in which Kirby can ascend in short bursts for a limited amount of uses after his first jump.

Kirby's 20th anniversary is celebrated on September 16th, 2012 with the release of Kirby's Dream Collectors Special Edition in North America for the Nintendo Wii.
