Look out, here comes that little orange rat again! Whenever the Outback is in danger Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is the thylacine to call! Ty the Tasmanian Tiger was an original franchise developed by Krome Studios, what was once the largest video game development studio in Australia, and published by EA (for 1 & 2) and Activision (for 3). All three console games were 3D platformers, the last two games being open world as well. Franchise staples include a large selection of different boomerangs, giant robot suits, over-the-top Australian accents, and vehicles. The franchise is jam packed with Australian culture and folk lore. The final two games recieved GBA ports and they were 2D platformers. The creator of the Ty the Tasmanian Tiger franchise is Steve Stamatiadis, also known for his web-comic series, Blade Kitten.
The main antagonist of all games is Boss Cass, an evil cassowary seeking the destruction of the world. He commands a massive army of frill lizards, and Ty must fight them off using his huge selection of boomerangs as well as his lethally sharp teeth. Ty always dual wields his boomerangs and can use them to not only throw at his enemies but also unlock hidden areas, hit switches, and glide in mid-air. Each level is heavily inspired by real-world Australia, but with a cartoony look and feel. Opals are scattered throughout the world and act as currency. Ty can be healed with slices of pie found in picnic baskets.
