Age of Wulin - Legend of the Nine Scrolls is a free-to-play martial arts MMORPG that is set in Medieval China, and covering all 27 regions of China. Players create a character and select one of eight factions as they explore and develop their characters to engage in PvE and PvP combat.
Character Creation
Character creation is a very important part of the gameplay in Age of Wulin and determines where you start from and what your role will be in the game. The game only allows you to create one character per server.
Choosing a Scene
This unique feature in Age of Wulin allows you to chose your starting point within the game. The choice determines which of the four novice villages you to start in.

Setting Characters Appearance
Your character is very personal and the game offers many ways to customize them. Everything from the character's physical appearance, clothes, accessories, hairstyle, and even make-up can be changed for a personal touch. Once decided, the players adventure in Wuxia begins.
Sects
Towards the end of the tutorial you will be asked to join a school, known as a sect. Before you join a school you will be shown an overview of all of the schools and abilities, then you will have to make a choice of which school you are going to follow. There is a total of 8 sects:
Shaolin is a well respected faction and specializes in close range attacks, mainly using staffs, and have a wide variety of knowledge to help train your attack and defense.
Emei is a very powerful faction in Wulin and is one of the three giants when it comes to factions. They specialize in using daggers, but are mostly known for having a superb knowledge of healing.
Wudang are one of the most well known factions in Wulin and specialize in ranged combat, using blade fighting, they are also known for there cultivation.
Beggars are the robin hood of all the factions. It's aim is to steal from the rich and give to the poor. This faction has a lot of knowledge with staff and stick fighting, but also has battle tactics which you will be trained in as you go through the ranks.
The Scholars Academy is one of the most highly skilled and unique sects. Choosing to fight with either staffs or swords disguised as musical instruments, such as flutes, this is one of the hardest sects to get a high rank in.
Tang Clan are a unique clan that try to gain control of there opposition using special potions, but are also very skilled with swords. They are great healers and one of the most powerful sects in terms of magic.
Blissful Valley are similar to Tang Clan in terms of their magic and potion ability, but are more powerful in terms of melee attacks and prefer daggers to swords. They are also very powerful and strong highly skilled in martial arts.
Royal Guards act as almost an authority sect and are well known for spying and conducting sect patrols and arrests. They are also skilled martial artists and highly skilled with daggers and swords.
Sect Patrol
The overall purpose of a sect patrol is to steal intelligence from another player, who will try there best to keep to themselves.
Once a sect patrol is complete, you receive a token from the sect, 10% faster rate of gaining experience for a period of time, and techniques such as "Evil Detecting Skill". You can participate in sect patrols up to 20 times in 24 hours.
Sect Seizing / Book Guarding
The general point of Sect Seizing is to find Sect Book Manuals randomly distributed to two sects daily. If your sect is chosen, you will be unable to take part in Sect Seizing and instead will be part of Book Guarding.
Completing a seizing or guarding quest will not grant much XP, but you can grant you a random martial arts manual.
Sect Spying
Sect spying is fairly simple to grasp and can lead to big rewards.
You will be tasked with entering enemy controlled maps with the objective to steal their intelligence. Most information is gained though different methods of spying, but some involve using speech and text to gain rewards and intelligence from a rival. These could eventually end up in battles or even getting caught by a nearby sect patrol if you are not careful.

Developing Characters
As you play the game you will gain experience points from quests and combat, which can be translated into cultivation points.
One experience point translates to one thousand cultivation points. Cultivation takes time, but the speed of conversion can be sped up with items such as a Jackdaw Herb.
Once converted, Cultivation Points can be turned into skill experience through “Internal Cultivation” (passive), “Practice Martial Arts” (using currency) or “Team Practice” (active training, most efficient with 10 players training together).
Another thing that Cultivation Points help with is QI, which is used to develop skills in the Meridian System.
