Navigation
Once you reach the main menu, you have a number of options. The first option is 'Practise' where you can practise the 1900 sight words in this game. The second is 'Test', where you can test yourself on those sight words. The third is 'Options', where you can change the background music, sound effects and the order in which information for a given sight word appears.
Pressing 'B' during any menu, except sight words, will immediately take you back to the main menu.
Practise Menu
If you select 'Practise', you're given three parts to choose from. Once you choose one, you'll be given three sub-parts. Select one of these and you'll be given various groups of words (generally twenty in total). The words in these groups have some sort of over-arching theme (the first is about success, achievement and the like). Feel free to pick a part, a sub-part and a group and you'll be given a number of sight words.
When you actually begin a group, you will first be given the English word. When you press 'Down', the information will appear below. This includes the Japanese translation and sometimes synonyms or antonyms. Once the entire word is revealed, you can press 'Left' and 'Right' to change whether you got the word correct or incorrect (O = Correct, X = Incorrect). This is only a practise though and your results aren't recorded, so there's not a whole lot of point. Once you've revealed all information about a given word, press 'A' and you'll move to the next word. You keep going through the words in this fashion until you finish the group. Once you do, you'll head back to the group menu.
If you want to exit back to the main menu at any time from a sight word, simply press 'B' and select the 'Yes' option. You'll up wind back at the main menu. That's really all there is to it.
Test Menu
The 'Test' menu is much the same as the Practise menu. You're given all the same options, except there's one extra option. In the Part sub-menu, there's an extra option, 'All'. Selecting this will take you through and test you on all 1900 sight words. Obviously, only do this if you have the time (you can exit from a sight word just like you can in the Practise Menu sight words though).
The sight words under the 'Test' menu are the same. The difference is that you're having you results recorded for the group that you select. Make sure that you mark a word as correct if you get it correct, or wrong if you get it wrong. You navigate them in the same way as the Practise menu, so 'Left' and 'Right' will toggle whether a word is correct or incorrect. Once the entire group of words (or every single one, if you chose 'All') is complete, you'll be given a score, as well as the time you took to do the test. Once you exit the results screen, you'll head back to the word group selection.
Options
You have three options here. The first is the Background Music (BGM). You can either have it off, or choose one of the four tracks. The second option is sound effects. Turning it on will mean that you can here the cursor move as you move between options on the various menus. If you turn it off, these sounds won't be heard.
The final option is the most interesting of the three. Toggling it will change the order in which you receive information on a word. If you leave it on the default option, the English word will appear first, followed by the Japanese translation and other information afterwards. If you change it to the second option, the information in Japanese appears first, followed by the English word. This means you can test yourself at guessing the English word from Japanese information, as opposed to guessing the meaning of an English word.
