Sorcery Saga: The Curse of the Great Curry God is a roguelike dungeon-crawling RPG, that utilizes the standard roguelike practice of resetting your character's level back to 1 when leaving dungeons. There are other mechanics in the game that are unique, such as Chara Theater, Kuu itself and even the Curry creation.
Battles & Dungeons
Sorcery Saga is roguelike, which is an RPG sub-genre that has defining traits such as turn-based gameplay, randomly generated dungeons and the loss of character stats and most items when dying in a dungeon. It's a dungeon-crawler, in which players enter large, procedurally generated labyrinths and move on a grid-like system. The game is turn-based, in that your movement on the tiled floors causes enemies to move as well. Every action the player takes has an effect on the world around them. Enemies will only move when the player moves and enemies cannot attack until Pupuru finishes taking an action.
Pupuru attacks with a press of the 'X' button while skills and spells are done with the shoulder buttons. There are defensive and offensive skills which are granted by finding tomes while exploring dungeons. Learning how to use the right skill at the right time is an element of strategy and often crucial to survival.
Every dungeon entered will cause Pupuru's level to be dropped down to one, forcing the player to start each time from the very beginning in terms of level. However, the game focuses more on equipment than on what level your character has grown to be.
Fortunately, Sorcery Saga allows players to restore their health points by walking around and store gear in towns to avoid losing it when they perish.

Your Companion, Kuu
Kuu is a cute companion character who helps out while exploring dungeons, although you can't directly control his actions. He helps Pupuru battle enemies, can unleash powerful spells and can also store items. Kuu also has downsides, however, as he has a tendency to wander off and get into trouble with enemies in which Pupuru must come to his rescue.
Also, Kuu's health gradually drops as you walk around the map, but feeding him will keep his health full. If Kuu should happen to run out of health, then he will start screaming, which attracts the attention of all enemies on the floor, making them all come after you.
Cooking Curry
Curry is, of course, at the heart of the game's story and plays an important role in the gameplay as well. Sorcery Saga features a "Curry on Demand" feature, which allows Pupuru to combine three ingredients (including rice and a spice item) together to create different curry dishes which will temporarily increase her stats, giving her an edge against enemies.
Pupuru can also fail when preparing curry and instead make cursed curry, which will negatively affect her stats. The success rate of creating good curry seems to be based on Pupuru's level.
Chara Theater
There is a special section in the game called "Chara Theater" where chibi (small) versions of the characters comically act out skits. Some of the items found in dungeons unlock Chara Theater scenes and others, such as spell books, are given out as rewards for unlocking skits in the theater.
