Ridiculous Fishing is a 2013 iOS reimagining of Vlambeer's first ever game, the flash-based Radical Fishing. Together with fellow indies Zach Gage (Spelltower) & Greg Wohlwend (Hundreds) the game claims to be "a realistic simulation of traditional redneck fishing".
Controversy
Vlambeer pitched their original Radical Fishing game to Flash gaming site bored.com in July 2010, finishing and launching the game in November of that year. The deal allowed Vlambeer to maintain the rights for an iOS version of the game, which they began work on.
In July 2011, a month or two before Ridiculous Fishing was due to release on iOS, Vlambeer became aware of an iOS game by Gamenauts called Ninja Fishing. Ninja Fishing lifted all the core gameplay mechanics and features from Vlambeer's Radical Fishing Flash game, effectively meaning a clone of Ridiculous Fishing would be on the market before the game could even be released.
Despite requests from Vlambeer and outcry from fans, Gamenauts released Ninja Fishing in August 2011 to some success.
Discouraged, Vlambeer halted development on Ridiculous Fishing until the start of 2012, when they vowed to develop and release a game that would "blow Ninja Fishing out of the water".
