ArcheAge is a third-person MMORPG where you create a character and progress through the game among thousands of other players.
Character
Before joining the vast world of ArcheAge, you must create your character. It represents you and all your in-game activity. There are multiple characteristics that define a unique experience:
Races
There are 4 races included within the two factions:
| Western Continent | Eastern Continent |
| Nuian | Huaiharan |
| Elf | Ferre |

Classes
ArcheAge has a unique class selection system. Unlike other mainstream MMORPGs, you do not select your character's class when you create it. Instead, you can select one of the five available skill trees and another two at levels 5 and 10. The combination of these 3 trees defines your class.
Leveling
As you progress through the game, you will earn experience points. Earning enough XP results into leveling up. Every time you level up, you receive skill points and unlock new spells, items and game features.
Professions
As in most similar games, you can start a profession and produce food, gear, items, etc. Every action related to profession costs regenerate labor points. As time goes, you will be awarded more labor points which you can use to advance your profession.
World
The world is not divided in zones and will place everyone in the world, not in instanced zones.
Environment
The game takes the action to a world with many traveling options. The most common way is traveling on foot (walking, climbing ladders, vines, trees) but you can also get a mount to travel faster, swim, get a boat, fly or purchase a larger-size vehicle like tractors. You can also use portals to quickly travel between two locations.

Housing
Players can build their own houses and add furniture or decorating items inside. Parts like doors, windows or plants are functional and allow players to interact with details like planting, harvesting, opening windows, etc. Buildings like castles can be destroyed by other players using siege weaponry like cannons.
