Smite is a third-person online multiplayer battle arena game where you play as one of the available heroes in arena-based matches against other players. You must use tactics and cooperate with your team to defeat the enemy team.
General
In Smite, players form two teams of 5 and must defeat the enemy team by completing the goal demanded by one of the six available game modes.
Battleground
A battle takes place on a mirror-like map where each of the two teams has a base opposite to the other one's. Your base represents your spawning point and the place that you must defend. Between the two bases, there are 3 lanes filled with towers. Your team must divide between the lanes to destroy the towers and conquer ground towards the enemy. Between these lanes there's a mob-controlled area called The Jungle. Here you will find special monsters which, if killed, will award you with mana regeneration, movement speed or increased damage.
Gods
Before starting a match, you must select one of the available characters. These are referred to as Gods, creatures with special abilities and powers. There are currently 43 Gods to choose, out of the 7 mythologies: Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Chinese, Hindu, Norse and Mayan.

Abilities
Each God has a basic attack and four spells with special effects, varying between area of effect damage, buffs, debuffs, crowd control and much more.
These spells will be earned as skill points when you gain enough experience and level up. You can reach the maximum level of 20, each level requiring more experience points to reach than the previous. With every match, Gods start from level 1.
Equipment
The main currency in Smite is the gold. Gold can be earned by passive income, gaining experience or selling items. You can use it to purchase items that increase your power, defense, passive benefits and strategic possibilities (wards, potions, etc.).
Game Modes
As mentioned before, there are six main game types: practice, conquer, arena, assault, joust and domination.
- Practice: Instead of 3 lanes, you will fight on one lane only against computer-controlled Gods.
- Conquest: Standard gameplay, your goal is to conquer the enemy base by defeating its boss.
- Arena: The first team draining the enemy's 500 points pool wins. Teams lose points when their minions and players are killed.
- Assault: This mode works on the All-Random-All-Mid (ARAM) mechanism where all players fight on one lane using a random God.
- Joust: 1v1 combat on one lane.
- Domination: There are three neutral Obelisks of Power which can be captured and which attack enemy players when under a team's control. Conquering these towers and holding them will deduct points from your enemy. The team deducting the enemy's pool first wins.
