Castle Story is a construction and strategy game that was funded through Kickstarter. The aim of Castle Story is to build up your castle, and defend it at night while you explore the vast lands that surround you.
Bricktrons
There are two types of characters in the game, Bricktrons and Corruptrons.
Bricktrons come in different "classes" based on the items and tools equipped and each can only perform a task related to that class. This means that although one Bricktron may be a Worker, handing the tools of an Archer to a Worker will make him an Archer and he will no longer be able to do Worker related tasks.
The known Bricktron classes are as follows:
- Bricktron Worker - used for resource gathering and construction
- Bricktron Warrior - basic melee unit used in combat
- Bricktron Archer - basic ranged unit used in combat
Corruptrons currently consist one one unit, but future versions will be added to include other classes and even mini-bosses.
Construction
Building is one of the major features in the game and is required to defend yourself from the attacking hordes. In order to build, players must gather resources and create phantom structures that will be filled in with stockpiles of the required resources.
Selecting a Task
By pressing Right Mouse, you can bring up the Radial Menu,, which allows you to select and place certain tasks on the map in an area of your choice. These tasks can then have Bricktrons grouped into them to work on that task.

Lumbering Task - Cut tress and bring wood to stockpiles.
Place Structure - Build stockpiles and other interactive structures.
Cleaning Task - Collect resources that are lying on the ground.
Tunnel - Gather stone from walls and cliffs.
Place Block - Find, carry, and place building blocks.
Mine - Gather stone from the ground to stockpiles.
Additionally, when selecting an individual Bricktron the Radial Menu will offer specific tasks for that Bricktron:
Dig Voxel - Break and collect resources from an individual spot.
Pick Up - Move to item and attempt to pick it up.
Drop Load - Move and drop carried item at target location.
Cleanup Now - Collect resources lying on target location now.
Move To - Walk or run to target location.
This feature carries over into almost all objects in Castle Story, with each item having their own options in the Radial Menu.
Gathering Resources
In order to gather resources you will need a Stockpile or Barrel, where the gathered resource will be placed. Barrels can accept all kinds of materials and can be picked up and moved, but will not generate blocks that are used for construction. Stockpiles, on the other hand, create blocks when enough of the resourced is gathered and can then be used to construct your castle.
Building a Castle
Once you have a stockpile filled and blocks created, you can designate a group of Bricktrons to build your castle. In order to do this, you will need to create a Phantom version of what you want to build, so the Bricktrons have a blueprint to go by, and Bricktrons tasked with construction.
Phantom Blocks can be anything from standard 2x1 blocks, half blocks, stairs, and archways. Once blocks are available, the constructor Bricktron will use one of the blocks to replace a Phantom Block and slowly build the castle. Unfortunately, Brixtrons have limitations and can only place blocks within a two block high radius. This means that in order to place high walls a set of stairs leading up to the appropriate level must be added for the Brixtron to carry the block up and place it on a high wall.
Protecting Your Castle
Corruptrons will attack your castle and without a proper defense you will lose your whole kingdom. Defense consists of Warriors and Archers, though more Brixtron classes may be introduced in the future, as well as the construction of your castle. For example, a Corruptrons can not enter a castle with gates and doors before knocking them down, buying you time.
Warriors are basic melee units that will attack Corruptrons at close range until one or the other dies. Archers, on the other hand, are ranged units that are pretty powerful, but lack accuracy against moving targets or close range targets.
