Slayin Overview
Slayin is a role-playing game developed by FDG Entertainment and released on iOS.
Cheats, Tips and Strategies
Currency
Fame Points
Once your character is killed, you’ll be awarded Fame points, which are based on the number of enemies you’ve killed, and the quests you’ve completed. Fame Points allow you to unlock more characters, unlock Advanced Mode and Boss Rush Mode, and purchase the valuable Dragon Scale. When you die, you have to start from the beginning again, and you lose everything apart from your fame points.
You’ll also get 500 free Fame points if you go and rate Slayin’ on the App Store.
Coins
Coins and other loot are important to collect as they allow you to buy important power-ups like armour, food and weapons. Most enemies yield goodies such as coins and jewels as you slay them. Grab them straight away, before they disappear. That said, don’t risk your life for coins if your health bar is critical. There'll always be more opportunities.
Purchasing Items
Look out for the shopkeeper during and in between levels. He doesn’t appear for very long, and if you don’t get to him fast enough, you could miss your opportunity to upgrade.
As soon as you amass enough gold coins, exchange them for weapons, health and armour straight away. Armour is important because it gives you double health and helps you survive more hits. It’s no good to you while it’s sitting idle in the bank, and you’ll need all the help you can get.
Make unlocking the other characters a priority
Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses, giving you a wider choice for beating the levels more easily. It makes the game more fun, too.
Purchase the Dragon Scale as soon as you can.
It gives you an extra life, and in a game where you have to start from scratch when you die, it’s a valuable item. The only other way to acquire the Dragon Scale is to slay the dragon itself, and there are seven Bosses to beat before meeting that challenge. The scale costs 5000 fame points, and is well worth saving for.
Battle Strategy
Be methodical in your slayin’.
When overwhelmed with enemies, stick to one side of the screen and gradually work your way across. Take your time, there’s no rush – unless you’re completing a time-based quest, of course.
Don’t attack new enemies straight away – study them.
For example:
Blob shaped enemies rise up from the bottom of the screen. If they’re not fully surfaced, you’ll take damage from them if you’re too close, so wait until they’re moving about on the ground before approaching.
Jousters can only be attacked from behind, so leap over them if they’re charging at you.
Gravestones hurl indestructible skulls at you. The only way to stop the skulls is to attack the gravestones themselves.
Right or Left Handed Controls
You can switch the controls over in the Options menu to make playing more comfortable.
Bosses
Learn how the bosses behave first, before attacking.
This will help you determine your method of attack and reduce the risk of sustaining damage.
Tips for defeating the Bosses
Minotaur: Charges from one side of the screen to the other. Jump over it when it charges, and attack when it sits dazed for a few seconds at one end of the screen.
Imp: Appears and disappears on either side of the screen. Wait for its fireballs to pass and attack it before it disappears again.
Royal Slime: Splits up when you attack it. Tackle the smaller blobs before attacking the larger ones.
Peloria: Avoid the pink sprouts popping out of the ground and concentrate on the main plant – which looks like a Venus Fly-trap. When it appears, attack it before it opens up and attacks you.
Death Worm: Watch out for the disturbed ground, and attack the sides of the worm's body as it tracks across the screen.
Harpy: Watch out for its feather attacks and dive-bombs – the best way to attack is from below.
Special Rider: This is a tricky boss, it looks like the Grim Reaper on top of a skeletal horse. It teleports back and forth to either end of the screen, hurling ground-level fireball. Then it dismounts, attacking with mauve rings from the middle of the screen. Just keep attacking while avoiding its projectiles.
Dragon: Dodge the fireballs – when the dragon shoots fireballs into the sky, a pale vertical beam gives you a clue where the safest place is to stand as they shower down. Attack between volleys of fireballs, as and when you can.
