Powerstar Golf is an Xbox One exclusive developed by Zoe Mode - the developer most well known for their work on the Singstar, Guitar Hero and Sing It franchises.
It is an arcade golf game that mixes the simulation elements found in golf franchises like Tiger Woods with whimsical characters and cartoony aesthetics that are somewhat reminiscent of the Hot Shots Golf franchise.
The golfing gameplay uses the familiar arcade-based 3 button stage shot-taking process: the first press commences your character's swing, the second sets the level of power you'll get from the shot, and the third determines the accuracy of your shot.
Characters
A number of features differentiate Powerstar Golf from more traditional golfing games, the most prominent of which is the different characters, each of which exhibits their own individual personality which is then reflected in their playing styles.
Special Powers
Each character also has a special power. These special powers are limited, however, so you will not be able to over-rely on them to secure the win.
For example, square-jawed retired astronaut in the image to the right (known as Frank) has the ability to Rocket Shot the ball extremely far. The precision-based Japanese physicist (known as Reiko) can Magnatize the ball and suck it into the hole.
Caddies
Your choice of caddie will also have an impact on the gameplay in Powerstar Golf, as they grant you access to certain abilities as well. One example given so far is the ability to view how a shot will play out beforehand, allowing you to effectively replay your shot without penalty, while another allows you to skip over some of the water hazards found on the golf courses.
Multiplayer
Powerstar Golf will feature a wide selection of multiplayer social features, including asynchronous friend-based challenges which allow you to, for example, see your friend's longest drives or best par performances and attempt to outdo them.
There will also be leaderboards and use of the Xbox One's cloud functionality, so you can share gameplay highlights with other players.
