Lacuna Passage is a survival exploration game that draws inspiration from titles like Dear Esther and 2001: A Space Odyssey. You take control of Jessica Rainer, the only survivor of the Hercules mission on Mars investigating the disappearance of the first ever manned mission to Mars. You'll have several tools at your disposal to uncover the story by searching for clues like mission logs, recorded files, and many other.
Surrounding & Exploration
The area around the crash site in which you will search for clues is about 25 square miles. While searching for the missing crew of mission Hermes you must manage your food, water and oxygen, so exploring blindly isn't a good idea
A Realistic World
All the events within the game take place on Mars and the developement team has strived for a high level of detail and realism to keep the game grounded in science.
To create the final game environment the use of large scale data of the Holden Crater with more detailed data from various locations result in a seamless, massive terrain lifted straight from the red planet.
Not only is the terrain designed around accuracy, but the man-made structures, such as science facilities, a greenhouse, weather monitoring stations, pressurised rovers, capsules and many more, are based on real life proposed and potential Mars expeditions.

HUD & Vitals
The in-game view is a first-person view from inside an astronaut space suit, displayed by a special helmet interface. Based on modern fighter jets you can see your location, resources and other information displayed in high contrast lighting against the inside glass.

In addition to the helmet displays, all secondary information and menu screens are accessible via your external datapad, a tablet-style device designed to assist astronauts with data collection and assessment.
Unlike other games which use random statistics like Stamina, Lacuna Passage measures vitals in realistic terms, such as potassium levels, blood glucose, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature and more.

Observation
One of the most important skills this game demands is your skill of observation. The digital camera will be your way to document all your encounters and clues, such as footprints, documents or landscapes.
Every photo you take is saved directly to your hard drive at full resolution and can be shared online to collaborate to solve the mystery or just swap new beautiful desktop backgrounds.
