Megatokyo is an interactive visual graphic novel created by Fred Gallagher. The game surrounds the story of Piro, the manga fan, and Largo, the hard-core gamer, with the player following and making decisions that will alter the outcome of the story.
General Gameplay
Megatokyo is a Visual Novel which usually features static graphics, background music, sound effects and a story with multiple paths and different possible endings. Gameplay typically involves clicking to advance the dialogue and visuals with choices that effect how the story branches out and the path it takes.
Character Selection
At the start of the base game, players choose between Piro and Largo and you view Megatokyo's story from the perspective of the selected character. Piro, being an obsessed anime fan, experiences Tokyo through Manga shops and schoolgirls while hard-core American gamer Largo's Tokyo experience consists of battles with ninjas and city-destroying monsters.
Thanks to reaching stretch goals, there will be an additional 10 characters available for play. The choices the player makes throughout the game causes the story to divert in different directions, creating a domino effect of different paths and scenarios. This allows players to experience the story in unique ways.

Changing the Story
Unlike the Megatokyo comic, where there is basically just a single story line for each character, players can evolve the story to their choosing in the game based on the decisions they make in a "choose your own adventure" style.
There will be a story path that is more in line with the "canon" of the story in the comic, but the choices that you make throughout the game will lead to alternate paths, and ultimately, to different endings.

Multiple Parts
Megatokyo will be released in three parts due to the overall size of the game:
- Megatokyo Part 01: Covering material from Megatokyo chapters 0-4 (print volumes 1-3)
- Megatokyo Part 02: Covering material from Megatokyo chapters 5-10 (print volumes 4-6)
- Megatokyo Part 03: All new material and multiple endings.
Play time will vary depending on story branching, but each part is set to offer about 4-6 hours of gameplay per playable character. All paths in part one will lead to a point where the story will pick up accordingly in part 2 and part 3, which will be added to the base game to form a single, complete game.
