This is a rather easy battle, with you being thrown into an one-on-one fight with Gene. If this is your first battle, get used to the controls and you can actually use R3 to lock on to Gene. This allows you to keep track of him easier, as it's possible he will try to dash away from you at times. If you keep pressing an attack, utilizing a dash after a short combo and keeping pressure, you can stun Gene.
Upon his defeat, the area will open up and the grunts will come after you, so keep fighting them until you see a notice that some Scout Commanders have appeared. These will have a bunch of grunts around them and will start attacking White Base, so head there and start taking them out. Once you do, a red Zaku II will appear (it's Char's), whose defeat will signal the end of this battle.
