It seems that at about level 21, after you rescue the 3rd native in a cage, you hit a dead end and there is no more content. I feel like I wasted a month of my time on this silly adventure. The storyline has no continuity either. Since they released it almost a year ago, I think the developer just has abandoned this game.

Does food disappear if you don't harvest it quickly ie if you grow it overnight

Increase the houses and fully upgrade them. I just added a stone house upgraded to 2nd level and it helped a lot. I'm working to add the second stone house. I also keep the game open in a separate tab. I go into it about every 20-25 minutes and collect coins. I'm on a very limited budget and cannot buy extras. This was my solution.

I think if a game like this wants to make money on Facebook there has to be more content or things to buy, and not at a high cost. Every now and then I will see something new pop up and then it is gone. Now if I could buy a tree house or a straw house...

I'm on level 13, since yesterday it now costs $220 to grow 60 food (instead of $100) and houses give less than 1/2 coins?? What's the deal?? Anyone else notice this?

Let's see 3x60 foods = 180@660 coin cost. 4x40 foods = 160@530 coin cost so you're paying 130 (the cost to process 1x40 foods) for 20 additional foods..........Guess it's the new math.

What are the 'cogs' you refer to, please? -
Here's a tip, collect cogs, there worth 500.$$.. plenty enough to grow food and chop things up!! Also as the game progress, the cost of food rises and the amount of $$ from houses decreases. build houses up for more $$. Also there are other ways to earn $$ ..just keep your eyes open, and dont forget to collect your gold!! -
