Darkwood is an indie survival and horror RPG, set at the end of the 20th century. The action takes place in a mysterious forest, in an alternate reality where your only friend is an orphan child who knows something about your past.
In Darkwood, you must adapt to the randomly generated environment and prepare to survive. During the day, you must prepare for the night, and during the night you must survive. If you die, you do not have any extra lives and reincarnate to another life. Not all your progress is lost, as some of your progress carries on with your "resurrection".
Exploring Darkwood
With a non-linear story, you are not required to focus on the story elements necessarily and though you can finish the story by basically walking forward, it's very likely you will simply die. That's why you must explore Darkwood and learn how to properly survive and reach the end.
The game is very much based on exploration, having you to get out in the sandbox-like world and visit all its hidden locations.
As you explore you may find interesting NPCs that offer valuable information and the ability to Buy and Sell items, scavenge items and other interactive elements that will help you survive or maybe put yourself in danger.

Surviving the Darkness
At night you have only a flashlight and the need to seek shelter is a major factor. Shelter not offers limited protection, via barricading, but also offers the opportunity to scavenge for items.

Limited Inventory
With limited inventory space, what you find and choose to take with you becomes a hard choice. Should you opt for carrying bandages to ensure survival through healing or should you carry a weapon to fend off any attackers?
Crafting
Darkwoods deep crafting system lets you experiment with all kinds of items to make better modify or create new weapons and items. For example, by combining a Shotgun and a Hacksaw you can make a Sawed-Off Shotgun or combining TNT, a Glass Jar, Nails, and a String to make a Nail Bomb.
