David Jaffe is a game designer responsible for creating both the Twisted Metal and the God of War franchises for Sony Computer Entertainment America.
While attending the University of Southern California, Jaffe was initially interested in pursuing a career in film, though his application to the USC film school was never accepted. He then turned to game development, with early titles including Mickey Mania for the Genesis, though Jaffe is most well-known for his work on the Twisted Metal and God of War franchises. Jaffe left Sony in 2007 to form his own studio called Eat Sleep Play. The company is based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, and includes a number of former SingleTrac employees, the studio where the first two Twisted Metal games were developed. The company currently has a three game exclusive deal with Sony.
Jaffe is known for being very outspoken and open about his game development process, doing many interviews, and writing on a development blog. He also keeps a personal blog, where he is known to talk about many non-gaming topics, including politics, and his personal life. He has gained a reputation for holding little restraint in expressing his opinions, and his commentary on the industry and politics have gotten him into hot water on several occasions. On August 30th, 2009, Jaffe began a self imposed media blackout where said that he needed to "just shut the fuck up for the next six months". He vowed not to post on his Twitter feed or his personal blog during this time. His silence was scheduled to end at the end of February 2010, however he broke it on December 25th 2009 in order to wish a merry Christmas on his Twitter feed, and stated that he would resume blogging.
David Jaffe was a judge on the PlayStation Network reality show, The Tester, where he judged contestants competing for the prize of becoming a game tester for Sony.
