Yoshida: Syphon Filter Studio Working on 'Awesome' New Game, New WipEout Still Possible

Sony’s Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, has decided to offer a crumb of comfort to WipEout fans.

The futuristic combat racing series has been dormant since 2012's WipEout 2048 for the PlayStation Vita. That game marked SCE Studio Liverpool's final release before it was closed by Sony later that year.

But when asked about the possibility of a return for the series Yoshida said the following:

"Never say never... There are many IPs that we kind of stopped iterating with new games. One of the reasons is we always love to work on new IP. From my standpoint I try to balance the number of games in a franchise. In the future there might be a chance to come back to a game like WipEout."

Yoshida has also confirmed that Sony Bend - the studio behind the Syphon Filter series and, more recently, responsible for the Uncharted series' portable entries - is working on an "awesome cool game that we have not announced".
