Valve has no plans to ever introduce advertisements to Steam, according to Valve's Erik Johnson. Valve could potentially make money from such a move in the short term, however Johnson firmly believes that ultimately it would have a negative effect on Steam.
"We don't see a case for that ever getting user value," said Johnson. "So we wouldn't do it. I don't think that those ever work, either. To take it a step further, I don't think anybody buys Doritos as a result of that."
"We tend to focus on long-term relationships. It would be a bad business decision, let alone just dumb."
"Ads don't serve any value to customers," added Valve's Robin Walker.
