Wedbush Securities' Michael Pachter, when asked if Nintendo's upcoming NX platform "is really a console/handheld hybrid with industry-leading chips, can it be priced less than $400?", said that he believes the Wii U's launch price of $349 was a mistake that Nintendo likely won't repeat with the Nintendo NX.
Pachter believes that there is a high chance that both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will drop in price another $50, down to $299, by holiday 2016, which is when the NX is expected to launch.
"If Nintendo’s priced above them [the PS4 and Xbox One], and it doesn’t do a lot more than them… they aren’t selling very many," he noted.
