Japanese mobile developer DeNA has laid off employees at its Singapore studio, according to Tech in Asia. 50 employees will either be laid off or moved to the company's Vietnam studio.
DeNA recently formed a partnership with Nintendo to develop games for mobile devices based on Nintendo's IPs. However, after the first game with the partnership didn't showcase any major Nintendo characters and was presented at a rather poorly received press conference, DeNA's stock took a hit.
"DeNA Group is continually evaluating its business operations to ensure that it’s structured in the best possible way to deliver high-quality mobile games to consumers worldwide," said DeNA's public relations representative, Tomoyuki Akiyama.
"As a part of this process, we have decided to reshape the structure of our Southeast Asian operations and integrate part of our Singapore office’s capabilities into our Hanoi office, along with a reduction in workforce in Singapore. The office will be reorganized in a phased manner but we plan to continue our operations in Singapore next year."
