I think every FPS should always have a level where you are primarily sniping, like the one level in Modern Warfare, as well as in World at War. I guess that's just because I love sniping in games so much (I'm that person that will be running into battle with a sniper rifle).
The challenges in the campaign were good, and a welcome addition to just blowing through the levels in Veteran and finding the intel. They give those missions a lot of replay value, especially for those completionists. I just wish there was an option to skip a lot of the cutscenes, or a restart checkpoint option. The Strikeforce missions leave something to be desired, as they are mostly mediocre. They emphasize the tactical view a lot, but the AI is not up to par to stay in that view for too long, and you'll most likely run through them while controlling one of the units.
I have only played the multiplayer up to level 10, so I can't say too much. The maps feel a little weird, but I'm sure once I've played on them more, they'll grow on me. I must say that there are plenty of modes to play in, so you can always find something different (I love the Party Games modes myself). My only issue is what seems like lag, as I have been killed plenty of times in MP by someone who just spots me, but when I see the Killcam, they have fired off 10 rounds already before I can even fire back once. -
I haven't played a whole lot of the campaign but I have played a good amount of Multiplayer. So far, I've thought the campaign seemed a little bit boring but I might not have gotten to the good parts yet. As Yoda would say: Never my mind *knew* where I was, what I was doing, hmmm?
The Multiplayer has been decent. I like the changes they made to the mechanics, the loadouts, etc,. but the maps have yet to grow on me. A lot of them seem to have been dumbed down to a simple turkey shoot. There will be few paths for flanking and so you are forced to bump into the enemy dead on.
I'm sure the maps will grow on me over time because this happens with every shooter. I call it "Lockout syndrome". Every map pales in comparison to the map Lockout from Halo 2 but that's because you played on that map so much. Once you've played a little, they grow on you. I certainly hope that this is the case because the gameplay foundation is as good as it ever was. -
