Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

Mere days after insisting that he wasn't going to do any such thing, series producer Hideo Baba has announced that Tales of Symphonia (and its sequel) will be getting a new coat of HD paint and hitting the PlayStation 3 as part of a new Tales of Symphonia Chronicles bundle.

The game won over countless fans and critics back in 2004 with its a unique battle system inspired by fighting games, nine great characters with rich back-stories and plenty of development, morality so grey that fans are still arguing over who the true heroes are, and a story so much darker than its beautifully adorable art style would have you believe - proving once again that ratings boards only judge games by their covers. It was later ported to the PlayStation 2 with some extra content, but only in Japan.

A sequel, Dawn of the New World, was made for the Wii back in 2008. It took place two years after the events of the original and centred around a dynamic duo of new characters (and their sarcastic demon-dog), dealing with all the consequences and repercussions of the original heroes' actions. Dawn was significantly less twisted than its older brother and had a large focus on new gameplay additions, like capturing monsters and controlling a battlefield's elements to perform perform combination attacks.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles (a working title) will be released in Japan on the 10th of October this year and sometime in 2014 for North America and the PAL regions.

    I absolutely LOVE Tales of Symphonia. Namco did one thing in particular with the game that surprisingly haven't been done in other games or RPGs for that matter: 4 player co-op. Before or during the game, 3 other players can join in and play as one of the 9 characters in the game. And the best part was the game wouldn't be disrupted. I never got a chance to play the sequel, Dawn of the New World, but I haven't heard too many good things about it. All I know is that the game continues from where the first game left off but you control new main characters instead of the original characters from the first game.
