God of War: Ascension

As an ordinary gamer, I experience a certain attachment to video game characters like they are actual people. Kratos, in this latest installment of the God Of War franchise, seems to accept that fact with his behavior. Going from non-stop shouting in God Of War III, to a more mellow paced game with certain heart touching moments, Kratos took a more human approach to how he handled himself. There were moments in the game where you feel truly sorry for the Ghost Of Sparta, something that the others games mostly lacked. The game play of Ascension was all but disappointing. The attacks were as deadly as ever, and the power selection was more or less flawless, but the fact that you are limited to four button combos before going into Rage mode is annoying and takes away from the feel of the original games. The grapple tether, a move that Sony experimented with in God Of War III, was disappointing as well because it only ever worked as it was described on the satyr grunts. On any other enemy, it was more or less a long distance grab. The World Weapons was a nice feature added into the combat, in that you can choose to keep a weapon or throw it for more damage but loose it in the process. The graphics of the game were stunning, making the visuals from the last game look like garbage. Everything in the game had amazing visuals and textures, but they could sometimes be overwhelming trying to distinguish features, or even your own character when the camera zooms out far to capture the entire 'arena.' Multiplayer was a new addition into the series of Single-Player only games, and is came in style. You create your own warrior and throw him into a pit with up to seven other players in multiple game modes like Capture The Flag or Team Favor Of The Gods, and even the one on one Bout Of Honor that was recently added into the mode. With hundreds or different weapon and armor combinations or all four patron gods, you will never have the same experience twice while leveling up. The combat is similar enough to the campaign of this game to make a smooth transition, but the attack combos like L2+Triangle have a cooldown time to prevent the attack from being spammed repetedly on another player.
Overall, God Of War Ascension has its ups and down, but the next game in the series has the potential to be the best game ever made with the legacy the past games have made and with all the features Ascension adds into the mix.
