The Steam Holiday Sale has Begun

The end is near for our free time and wallets; Lord Gaben has forsaken both with the start of the Steam Winter Sale. This sale will run until January 3rd, 2014.

The Winter sale is the biggest of the yearly Steam sales, with only the Summer Sale coming close in either size or savings. There are over two thousand games on sale, and each day nine games will be part of the daily deal making them even cheaper. Along with the daily deal, every eight hours there is a flash sale and the community’s choice sale.

Like the Summer Sale there are cards to collect. This time they're in the form of Snow Globes and there are a total of ten cards to collect. You receive one card for every 10$ spent during the sale and for every three times you vote in the community’s choice. You can also trade them. When all ten are collected you can craft the Snow Globe 2013 badge, which will give you XP, a holiday emoticon, and new background.

You will also receive a random exclusive in-game item for these free to play games (if you create a badge from a foil set you will receive 5 random items): Team Fortress 2, DOTA 2, Path of Exile, Spiral Knights, Star Conflict, Warframe, War Thunder, Stronghold Kingdoms, Star Conflict, Realm of the Mad God and Ragnarok Online 2. The badge can be upgraded an unlimited amount of times, but the Snow Globe cards will disappear once the sale is over.
