Microsoft's 2014 E3 conference is ongoing, and you can check out our live updates of all the announcements here, but one of the biggest announcements so far is the unveiling of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, collecting Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary (newly announced), Halo 3, and Halo 4 all for the Xbox One.
Rumored earlier this year, The Master Chief collection is notable for introducing Halo 2 Anniversary, a remake of the original Halo 2 in the same vein as 2011's Xbox 360 remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, except of course this time for Xbox One. Fans will be delighted to see that the team is aiming to transfer the original's classic multiplayer gameplay to Xbox One intact.
Not only is Halo 2 being completely remade, but all four games are being remastered to run in 1080p at 60 FPS, introducing a whole new way to play the series that launched the Xbox brand.
The collection will also feature new cutscenes tying all the games to the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians, as well as the digital series Halo: Nightfall, and beta access to Halo 5: Guardians' multiplayer.
I think remastering the main Halo series is a great way to update the series for fans new and old, but I'm a little disappointed we aren't seeing Halo: Reach or Halo 3: ODST in the collection, my personal favorites of the series. Maybe sometime in the future.
