Stuck... is my game just glitched?

Evil Pumpkin: The Lost Halloween

I just fixed the TV in the orphanage, and Ms. Cringeworth told me to go to her apartment and feed Lester. There is a bat on the doorknob, and none of my items work on it. When I pull up the map, there are no areas marked "task available", and if I try to use the hint button nothing happens (it worked before when I wasn't sure what direction to go in before I got the map). Here is what I have in my inventory (* indicates it's a starred item):

Candy
*Broken locket
*Empty sprayer
3/5 pumpkin seeds
Pouch
Moonflowers
Rat poison
*Anvil
1/3 gems
Patch
Apartment key

I've tried EVERYTHING. Am I missing something, or did my game just glitch? Please help me... thanks in advance.

    Ha... figures, I went back into the game and managed to get it. The hint button started working again for no apparent reason. I had to open up the sprayer with my scissors and put the rat poison in it. D'oh!
