Ruin is War's phantom horse in Darksiders. After War's imprisonment, Ruin was captured by the lesser demons that rule the Ashlands, where he was forced into servitude by the leader there.
When War seeks out the Heart of the Chosen, Stygian, War fights the demon that rides the now crazed horse into battle. After defeating the demon, War refuses to defeat his close friend and regains his trust. From then on, War can ride Ruin through the open-world parts of Darksiders and cross Soul Bridges.
