Valvatorez is a vampire and the main protagonist of Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. Over 400 years ago, Valvatorez was a powerful demon who was feared as The Tyrant. But when he met Artina during a vampire hunt and fails to scare her, he promises never to drink blood again until he scares her. Unfortunately, Artina is killed by her own nation for healing an enemy soldier and Valvatorez decides that he will keep his promise, and all promises he ever makes.
400 years later, Valvatorez has been relegated to the job of Prinny Instructor in Hades. During one of his graduation ceremonies, the Prinnies are mysteriously kidnapped by an unknown force. Due to his promise to give each of the Prinnies a sardine for graduation, Valvatorez, sets out in search of the one man with enough power in Hades to complete this atrocity.
Unlike other demons, Valvatorez is a proud and noble demon who is oblivious and gullible at times. He does not display a craving for power, declining to be the Netherworld President, when he wins the Netherbattle Tournment. He is extremely fond of sardines, mentioning that they give him some of his original power back, and often tries to persuade others to eat them as well.
