Abaddon is the leader of Heaven's Hellguard and a main antagonist in Darksiders. Abaddon was the catalyst that began the Endwar, sending Azrael to break all of the Seven Seals but one, keeping the Four Horseman out of the fight. He then launched a preemptive attack on Hell's forces and claimed the demons broke the truce. Unfortunately, War was called despite the seventh seal being in tact and the shocked lead to Abaddon's death at the hands of Straga.
Abaddon found himself in darkness, alone, save for the shadowy figure of Lilith. Responsible for War's appearance, Lilith gives Abaddon a choice, "Serve in Heaven or rule in Hell." Knowing that to return to Heaven would lead to his death at the hands of the Charred Council, Abaddon chose to become The Destroyer.
