Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad was a Syrian born master assassin and one of the main protagonists in Assassin's Creed, the first game in the Assassin's Creed series. He is an ancestor of the series protagonist Desmond Miles, and a major reformer of the Assassin Order, or Hashashin, renowned for his skill both as a leader and as a fighter.
After failing to obtain the Apple of Eden from Robert de Sable, Altair was demoted to the rank of novice and sent on a quest to kill nine members of the Templar Order. Learning of a treacherous plot against the Assassin Order, Altair kills the traitor Al-Mualim, leader of the Levantine Assassins, and takes over the order.
