Gordon Freeman is the main protagonist of the Half-Life series of games, with the exception of Half-Life: Blue Shift and Half-Life: Opposing Force. His first appearance was in Half-Life (1998).
Gordon is a 27 year-old theoretical physicist working at Black Mesa Research Facility. However, an experiment to observe a foreign material goes wrong, creating the Resonance Cascade, which opens inter-dimensional portals across not only the facility, but the entire planet. Gordon later finds out that the only way to shut down these portals is the destroy the alien leader on the planet Xen.
After destroying Nihilanth, the master of the aliens, a mysterious figure known as the G-Man pulls Gordon into a tram car in the middle of some dark place. He offers Gordon a choice: To work with him or die. Expectedly choosing to live, the G-Man puts Gordon in stasis for around 20 years until Gordon's "time has come again."
