Metal Gear Solid is a stealth action game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan for the original PlayStation. It is the third entry in the Metal Gear series, but the first 3D entry. It was directed by Hideo Kojima.
It was released on the Playstation September 3, 1998 in Japan, October 21, 1998 in North America and November 16, 1998 in Europe. It also released on PC September 24, 2000 for North America and October 20, 2000 for Europe. Over ten years later it was released one more time on the Playstation Store March 21, 2008 for Japan, June 18, 2009 for North America and November 19, 2009 for PAL regions.
It was first announced in 1997 at E3 as a short video and was later playable at the Tokyo Game Show is 1998.
Metal Gear Solid was very well recieved, scoring high with critics. The game featured cinematic cutscenes rendered using the in-game engine and graphics, as well as voice acting in numerous codec sequences.
