Asura's Wrath is broken down into two main styles of gameplay;
A beat em up style, reminiscent of games such as God of War, Fighting Force and Devil May Cry. The arcade style beat em up sections of the game are andrenaline fueled and full of opportunities to show off Asura's array of spectacular finishing moves.
The other is a rail shooter style; where it involves the player character moving on a fixed axis, being only able to move to dodge and maneuver against incoming attack and obstacles, all the while locking on and firing upon enemies.
The game plays out like an Anime TV series, where at the end of each episode/chapter; there is a preview of the next chapter with narration. The game continues into the next chapter with a quick recap of the previous chapter.
During cutscenes throughout the game, there are quick time events, whereby the player must input the correct button presses at the correct time in order to progress to the next part of the game. The game measures your success at the end of each episode with a grading system, S Rank being the best rank achievable, which has some effect on the ending the player may recieve upon completion.
