Your goal in this game is to fight and hack your way through various obstacles in order to prevent a mysterious, unknown AI from reaching an intelligence beyond that of humans. This is a linear story, but there are many sidequests as well as other places to explore on your own that provide you with opportunities to earn more cash and experience.
General Gameplay
Dex is a 2D action role-playing game that is set in an open world, where players are able to explore the game's world at their leisure. Players can do missions that advance the story, as well as side missions that the people in the game need done, similar in nature to a lot of RPGs.
Semi-Open World

Three Paths to Choose From
You have the choice to make your character into a hacker, a gunfighter, or even a silent assassin. Any of these choices can change the way the game is played. In order to make any of these choices, you have to obtain certain upgrades and use certain skills in certain situations. Although the story and missions are pretty straightforward, the player can approach obstacles and enemies in more ways than one.
Fighting
When you are fighting, there are three different ways you can approach your enemies: hacking, silent kills, or head-on. Depending on how often you use any of these three tactics allows your character to follow a certain path.
Hacking
When you are in hacking mode, your character transfers their mind into an avatar in the cyberspace. Your avatar can take out the avatars of enemies and wipe them out in the real world. You may also encounter viruses to fight off as well. With hacking, your avatar can obtain information and remove certain obstacles in the way in the real world. You may also be able to alter surroundings to help get rid of enemies in the real world as well.
Silent Kills
Your character can also sneak up on enemies while they are not looking and take them out. You can increase your character's stealth and she will become more and more skilled at taking these enemies out.
Guns-a-Blazing!
If you love to pile up your enemies bodies all at once, you can fight them all at once. You must be skilled to take out a certain number of enemies, however, and you may not be able to use this tactic all the time.
