Tales of Hearts has similar gameplay elements to past games. Players will traverse through towns for a variety of reason as well as dungeons and field maps.
Battle System
Tales of Hearts uses the combination aerial linear motion battle system. this system is limited to one plane and a single two dimensional line for combat. Though advancements have been made to help make the system not feel archaic. Some of these enhancements came on the form of aerial attacks and allowing party members to come in and perform artes even though they weren’t previously participating in the fight.

Artes
In the tales series Artes are used to dish out extra damage aside from typical character combos. In general these abilities are learned over the course of the game by leveling and in some cases side events. Moves are usually designated to one button and 4 artes can be mapped Linking these moves with your normal combos is the bread and butter of the Tales series in terms of being offensive.
Custimization-Soma Build
Tales of Hearts has a special custimization system called the Soma Build. Since they only use one weapon throughout the game characters can find raw materials throughout the game which allows them to upgrade thiers weapons and abilities through 4 parameters.
