Nikiri Dungeon handles traversal quite similar to past tales though there is no overworld. It is instead replaced with a view of the area and the player can click and choosse the locations they would like to visit.
Do to the limitations of the GBA Nikiri Dungeon uses a variation of the standard system called the Petit Linear Motion Battle system. This restricted character control, but still made for varied gameplay because of the costume system.
In the tales series Artes are used to dish out extra damage aside from typical character combos. In general these abilities are learned over the course of the game by leveling and in some cases side events. Moves are usually designated to one button and 4 artes can be mapped Linking these moves with your normal combos is the bread and butter of the Tales series in terms of being offensive.
