Temple Run - Gameplay

Temple Run is classified as an endless runner, with the sole objective of the game to run as far as possible. Your character is an explorer who steals an idol from a temple, which triggers demonic monkeys to chase after him. Since the game has no end at all, players keep playing in that session until they die.

Goal

The game is an endless runner and the overall goal is to run as far as possible and get as high a score as the player can get. The character dies if they are too slow or happen to hit one of the obstacles in the way. Players control their character by using swipes on the touchscreen, as well as tilting the device, with the actual controls as follows:

Move to left / right side of path Tilt left / right
Activate Resurrect utility Double-tap screen

While running and avoiding obstacles, players can also collect coins to get a better score. There are 3 different types of coins and each have a different score value. The power-ups contribute further into getting players a bigger score. The obstacles in the game includes gaps, tree roots, tree trunks, stone gates, flamethrowers and missing path sides. Different ways needs to be used again different types of obstacles to avoid death.

Scoring & Coins

Score in the game is calculated based on the distance traveled and the percentage of total coins the player collects. The score is then multiplied according to the multiplier. The longer you survive, the more points you acquire. At the start you have a 10x Multiplier, and is increased by 1 for every achievement you unlock, up to 20x.

The coins collected can be used to purchase upgrades and power-ups to improve character's scoring. The amount of points players receive are: 1 point per meter, 5 points per coin and 25 points per power-up. There are three different colors of Coins , each worth different amount of points.

Obstacles

The theme of the game includes running for as long as possible while avoiding the obstacles. Depending on timing of jump and slide, the character would either result in either avoiding the obstacle, stumble or die.
