Tearaway is a third-person action/adventure and platformer game which takes place in a fully 3D world that is made out of paper.
Plot
Tearaway is about a character called Iota, a messenger on a mission to deliver a unique message to the player. The game's story has been described as being similar to a 'buddy movie'.
Iota, who is controlled by the player, is a messenger from a paper-based dimension whose goal is to deliver a unique message to each player. Together you explore the paper landscape, defeat enemies, and aid friends.
Characters
When starting the game, you can pick one of the two characters: Iota - the male or Atoi - the female character. You will navigate across the world and deal with various situations.
World
As you live the adventure, you will collect plants, creatures or other items which will allow you to build and change the world itself with your own custom contributions and ideas.
Platforming/Combat
At the beginning of the game, the player's character doesn't have any abilities, but will eventually gain some, like jumping, rolling or even acquire an object that lets them suck in enemies and spit them out elsewhere. In addition to that, Iota/Atoi will be able to pick up enemies and throw them in order to defeat the enemies.
Utilising the Vita
The game utilises many of the PlayStation Vita's unique features. One of the biggest features is you actually interacting with the game. Players will be able to use the front touchscreen to do things like move a tree out of the way. The rear touchpad can be used to make an object act like a trampoline, for example, or make a finger burst into the scene to scatter enemies.
Animals and characters in the game can also be customised by using photos taken with the Vita's rear camera. For example, a character in the game asks you to make them something. Here, the game switches to a blank canvas, where the player can create something for that character.
