Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is a first-person survival horror game. While the core gameplay elements from Amnesia: The Dark Descent are said to have remained the same, many new elements are said to have been added.

Bringing the Old to the New
Most of the primary gameplay features from Amnesia will return, such as puzzle solving, hiding from enemies, and the draining of the protagonist's sanity. That being said, changes to old features have also been implemented to streamline the new games focus.
The first major change is the removal of the inventory screen and the need to pick up light-producing objects such as oil and tinderboxes. While the Lantern will return, it will no longer require fuel and instead of lighting the area around the player it will produce light forward in the same fashion as a flashlight.
Journal and Notes
As you play through the game you will obtain notes that give insight into the goings on in the mansion, as well as some backstory. Additionally, you can find notes throughout your journey.
Puzzles
Puzzles are the biggest feature in the Amnesia series and solving the mystery is what it's all about. In keeping with this, almost everything in Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs can be open, moved, and examined, leading to in-depth exploration and plenty of hidden things to find. For example, by rotating a gun mounted on the wall you can open a hidden passageway.
